4th October 2019 Thomas Scatchard and sons has stopped production of all broadloom products. Whilst some products are still available, only bespoke pass machine one offs will be manufactured.We would like to thank customers as far back as 1798 for there custom and wish all well in future prodjects.

Tufted carpet manufacture was born from the candlewick bedspread makers in Dalton Georgia.
Catherine Evans 1880 from Reo in Whitfield County is credited as being the person to start tufting ,
Although tufted rugs had been made by various ancient peoples.
Addie Evans Catherine’s sister in law, took the process further and mechanised it.
The first tufted rugs were produced in 1951 in Dalton Georgia
Thomas Scatchard and sons were manufacturing fitted tufted carpets in 1952
Production has now stopped .
