4th October 2019 Thomas Scatchard and sons has stopped production of all broadloom products. Whilst some products are still available, only bespoke pass machine one offs will be manufactured.We would like to thank customers as far back as 1798 for there custom and wish all well in future prodjects.
Overlocking
Tufted carpet manufacture was born from the candlewick bedspread makers in Dalton Georgia.
Catherine Evans 1880 from Reo in Whitfield County is credited as being the person to start tufting ,
Although tufted rugs had been made by various ancient peoples.
Addie Evans Catherine’s sister in law, took the process further and mechanised it.
The first tufted rugs were produced in 1951 in Dalton Georgia

British Wool has a number of key advantages. British wool is a fibre with bulk and resilience offering superior durability and performance. A British wool carpet will reduce the effect of tracking & shading, providing longer lasting retention. British wool has an inbuilt resistance to soiling due to its natural oil and the scaled structure of the fibre which act as a shield against dirt. British wool is naturally flame resistant and produces less toxic fumes than most other materials. It has a higher ignition threshold levels than many other fibres, and its ability to self extinguish makes it a safer product in areas of public usage and the home.
